If you’re looking for a night vision device that offers excellent clarity, versatility, and ease of use, the Sheawasy 4K Night Vision Goggles might be just what you need. Here’s my experience with these goggles after putting them to the test.
Design and Build
The Sheawasy 4K goggles come with a sleek, ergonomic design that feels comfortable to hold during extended use. The 3-inch TFT screen offers a bright and clear display, which is crucial for navigating through night conditions. The build quality seems solid but they are constructed using a plastic housing, so I can’t comment on the longevity of the product. The plastic housing does reduce weight and makes them light. This makes them easy to hold up in front of your eyes for long periods in the field. It also makes them easy to pack and carry for those late afternoon hunts where you may have to search for a game animal after dark.
Night Vision Performance
Where these goggles truly shine is in their night vision capabilities. Thanks to the 3-watt infrared light, you can get clear visibility even in complete darkness. The 10x digital zoom further enhances the detail of objects at a distance, making it a great tool for wildlife observation, night patrols, or even nocturnal adventures. The view from the screen is clear and the adjustable focus allows you to change the focus from near to far to get a clear picture of what is around you, even in complete darkness. it also includes a built-in red laser pointer to help with pointing at your target.
Clarity and Resolution
My only complaint is that the marketing says they can take photos and video. They even include a 64-gig memory card for taking photos and videos. Although I didn’t expect the photo quality to compare to my Canon pro-level cameras, the photos and videos that come from this are worse than useless. Even using meticulous technique to fine focus the camera the photos are sub-par in every way. The daylight photos are soft around the center, and the night photos have so much noise they are very poor quality. The videos have a comparable quality. See the photos below.
Battery Life
Another highlight is the rechargeable battery. It lasts for hours on a full charge, allowing for extended night excursions without needing to swap batteries constantly. This is a major plus, especially when you’re out in the field and don’t have immediate access to a charging station. My experience with battery life has been impressive. The internal rechargeable battery gives hours of use in the field. They use a standard USB-C charging cable, so you can recharge them in your vehicle if needed.
Usability and Features
The interface is intuitive, making it easy to switch between modes, zoom in/out, and review your captured media on the go. The controls are responsive, even when using the device with gloves, which is often necessary in outdoor situations. The control buttons are neatly arranged on top of the unit for easy access. The buttons are large so they are easy to feel by touch in the dark.
Pros:
- Cost: This unit is significantly less expensive than comparable items of similar capability ($60 retail)
- Excellent night vision performance: The infrared light and 10x zoom work nicely in complete darkness.
- Built-in Laser Pointer: The built-in red laser pointer helps to orient you in the dark.
- Rechargeable battery: Convenient and environmentally friendly with long battery life.
- Easy to use: Intuitive controls and a comfortable design.
- Lightweight: The unit only weighs 11 oz.
- Mount on a Tripod: The unit has a standard-size mounting hole that allows you to attach a standard tripod quick-release mount.
- Included Neck Strap: It also comes with a neck strap to allow you to wear them around your neck.
Cons:
- Zoom is digital: While the 10x zoom is great, it’s a digital zoom, so there’s a noticeable drop in quality at maximum zoom compared to optical zoom systems.
- Photo/Video Quality is Sub-Par: As mentioned, don’t expect to get good-quality photos or videos from this unit.
Final Thoughts
The Sheawasy 4K Night Vision Goggles are a fantastic choice for anyone in need of a reliable night vision device. Whether you’re into wildlife observation, security, or simply exploring the night, these goggles provide excellent clarity and a host of useful features. The retail price of $60 is an affordable way to get night vision capability without breaking the bank.
I purchased these primarily for searching for deer after dark. There are times when you hunt in the afternoon and shoot a deer close to sundown. It isn’t any fun trying to follow a blood trail in the dark with a flashlight. Using these in infrared mode will make that task much easier should I need to find a deer after dark again.
I have also used them to spot animals in the woods when the dogs are barking. They would make it easier to find lost cattle, etc. at night. They would be useful for security on the farm where using a flashlight could reveal your position to an intruder. Although the IR emitter glows red visibly, it is very dim and would be hard to spot at any distance from the device.
