The Powersite Dam, also known as Ozark Beach Dam, creates Lake Taneycomo from here upstream to Table Rock Dam. This is a hydroelectric dam that went into service in 1913. The construction of the Powersite dam took 2 years, from 1911-1913.
The workers constructing the dam had to live in tents and other shelters at the dam site due to transportation issues in the county at the time. A community sprang up and had a store, commissary, and even a school for the children of the workers. Read more about the dam here.
The dam was closed and completed on May 10, 1913. It only took around 30 hours for the lake to fill and create Lake Taneycomo.
